ZAGPI

Andrea Cachia [Ka-Key-Ya]

(They/She)

Hi! let met tell you a bit about myself. I have always loved being creative; making things, drawing things, and taking things apart were hobbies of mine when I was young. I started out an Electronic Engineer, with a Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering and an MSc in Embedded Microprocessors and Wireless Systems. I brought my passion of making into my career as an engineer, but it was not enough: I wanted to make my work an art form, not just a job.

*

For years I had worked on my own projects at home, from brief sketches to small electronics projects, but in the end of 2018 I decided to take my passion seriously, and made a new year's resolution for 2019 to 'Just Do It'. Thus, Zagpi was born. I am now working towards a PhD in the field of robotics, and thinking about future plans involving both my research skills and Zagpi to create something new and innovative, and crucially something cool!

*

I am an out-and-proud trans non-binary woman, and as such I've encountered all sorts of intresting ways the world of engineering is still capable of bending over backwards to make life difficult (but politely) for trans people. Because of this, I have decided to try to be unapologetic in my queerness as I go about my research and my studies, and try to prefer collaboration with queer peers and institutions.

Zagpi is a collection of all my creative endeavours and interests, from pure engineering and robotics to woodworking, costume design and makeup. I am not always the most skilled at everything I try, but I will try everything I can! As a person with unmedicated ADHD, my interests switch quickly and I am but a slave to whim sometimes, but Zagpi is my creative space where I can change it up freely, and document it all in one place. I don't intend to monitize everything I do, because Zagpi encompasses all aspects of my creative endeavours, including hobbies and stuff I just want to do for fun - but the potential is there to become more, when I finish my studies of course!

Where does the name Zagpi come from?

Zagpi [Zag-pie] was the name of my commander on the PC game Elite:Dangerous, and is copied from the confirmation code used to activate the game!
